How powerful should a bathroom fan be?
According to the Building Regulations, a bathroom fan needs to have an extractor rate of at least 15 l/s. Most bathroom fans more than exceed this as you may have noticed from our list. Ultimately, it all depends upon your application, how big the room is, how big an extraction rate you need etc.
Can a bathroom fan be too strong?
Buying an extractor fan that is too strong is a waste of money. Most extractor fans on the market that are designed for bathrooms will be more than suitable. However, if you have a smaller bathroom and a very powerful fan, even though the cost to run an extractor fan is inexpensive, it will mean you are wasting electricity and money.
On average, a bathroom extractor fan uses between 4 and 38 watts of electricity, depending on the model, which is very low in comparison to other appliances like a light bulb, for example.
