There's only one place to get food in Toy Story Land — here's what it's really like to eat there (2022)

  • Woody's Lunch Box is the only place to eat at inside of Toy Story Land.
  • The outside dining area offers a mix of cold and hot sandwiches, floats, and alcoholic beverages for adults.
  • I ate at Woody's Lunchbox twice — once for lunch and another time for dinner.
  • The dessert tarts topped with candied bacon were a favorite.
  • Despite the food being good, there are some drawbacks.
  • The average price of a sandwich is $10.86. Three Babybel cheese snacks cost $3.49.
  • The entire place is outdoors with only umbrellas to protect from the sun and seating is limited.
  • For the price, you can do better than the crowded outdoor space.

If you head to Toy Story Land in Disney World's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, and are trying to ride each of the three attractions, sooner or later you're bound to get hungry.

There's only one place to eat inside Toy Story Land and it's an outdoor dining area called Woody's Lunch Box. It offers a mix of cold and hot sandwiches and desserts.

During a recent visit for the opening of Toy Story Land, I stopped by to try out some of the themed food.

I didn't eat everything (I'm one person and was at Hollywood Studios for about two days), but everything that I did try — from pastries to soup — was really good. Still, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again for the price, lack of variety, and limited seating. Here's everything you should know before eating there.

What's on the menu?

Kirsten Acuna/INSIDER

Overall, Woody's Lunch Box offers a pretty traditional, limited menu. There aren't any burgers or salads. It's essentially a selection of four sandwiches. A main highlight of the menu is "Totchos," which are tater tots (called potato barrels for fun) mixed with corn chips, chili, and cheese.

Here's a full look at the front and back of the menu you receive while standing on line:

OK, but is the food good? Yes! But you may want to avoid Woody's Lunch Box if you have a dairy allergy.

Disney Parks

During my two visits to Woody's Lunchbox, I had two of the four sandwiches, both tart treats, the macaroni salad, soup, the grown-ups' lemonade, and the mystic portal punch. I thoroughly enjoyed everything.

Overall,I was a bit surprised — and bummed — to see how much of the menu had cheese on it. I started acquiring an intolerance to dairy a few years back, so I've mostly cut it out of my diet all together.

Disney Parks

If you do have a food allergy, let the cast members at Disney know and they should be able to accommodate.

I wanted to avoid cheese the best I could so I went with the turkey sandwich on day one. (I had to eat it pretty quickly on opening day before it started to downpour so no photos.) It wasn't anything special. It has turkey, lettuce, and tomato on it, so it tasted like most other turkey sandwiches. After waiting nearly three hours to get into Toy Story Land that day and at least another half hour in a line for food, I was really hungry. I'm pretty sure I would have gladly taken any food put in front of my face.

I enjoyed the BBQ brisket melt a bit more two days later. It had a subtle hint of cheese that wasn't overwhelming and plenty of meat on the sandwich. Disney wasn't skimping me for my $12.99! (Note: I didn't realize until after I was ordering it there was cheese in it, but luckily I carried a Lactaid pill with me.)

Though I didn't have the grilled cheese sandwich, my comrade Heather Concannon didn't have any qualms with it. It's kind of tough to mess up grilled cheese. It was cheesy — as it should be.

As for the sides, you can't go wrong with the macaroni salad or the soup. You're probably more likely to lean toward the former because this is Florida and not many people want to eat soup while it's hot. I don't like macaroni salad with too much mayo and this had the perfect mayo-to-pasta ratio. And if you're not feeling too hot to have the soup, the tomato-basil is a creamy orange dish with a little kick to it that isn't overpowering.

The only complaint I have here? The side dish cups could have been a little bit bigger.Look at how small they are!

The must-try items: The Lunch Box Tarts and the Grown-Ups' Lemonade

The tarts were the real winners at Woody's Lunch Box. If you're a fan of strawberry Pop-Tarts, that's what the raspberry pastry tasted like. The hazelnut one is just as good. The chocolate filling reminded us of a toaster strudel or chocolate croissant. The bacon bits on top were more obvious to my taste buds on top of this tart.

The treats definitely stood out while walking around. A few people asked me about them, how they were, and where they could purchase them.

Just try not to get caught in the rain with them or they'll fall apart before your eyes.

Kirsten Acuna/INSIDER

If you're over 21, I recommend the Grown-Ups' lemonade. It's not too tart or too sweet. It honestly doesn't even taste like there's alcohol in this drink, which is a bit dangerous.

Kirsten Acuna/INSIDER

If you like this drink, you may want to seek out some of Toy Story Land's other themed alcoholic beverages. You can read about them here.

What about that cute alien cup with the green drink?

Kirsten Acuna/INSIDER

I honestly thought this was Mountain Dew when I first sipped it, but it was probably better that it turned out to be Powerade after walking around a hot park for half the day.

I wish I could tell you more great things about the green beverage, butI only had a few sips before I accidentally knocked it all over like a klutz in the rain. (My choices were to try and save my two tarts from becoming a soggy mess or hold onto the green alien juice. In the end, I wound up losing all three. At least I have the souvenir cup, even though I managed to lose the straw in the storm.)

On the plus side, the Alien sipper and mystic portal punch combo makes for a good photo op. The cup even lights up. A woman actually came by and stopped to ask if she could take a photo of my cup before I even had a chance to do so. I'm glad someone was able to get a photo of it in its prime.

Don't believe all the press photos you see — it's going to be busy

Disney Parks put out a bunch of press photos of Woody's Lunch Box online. The photos make it look like a large and spacious area to sit down and dine.

Here's what a few of those look like:

Disney Parks

It looks like there's a lot of room here, right?

Disney Parks

In reality, there's a giant queue through that empty space.

Kirsten Acuna/INSIDER
Kirsten Acuna/INSIDER

That queue is generally full since Woody's Lunch Box is the only place where you can eat in Toy Story Land. I wound up waiting 20 to 35 minutes in line both times I went to the dining area. I tried using Disney's mobile ordering app, but every time I tried it was down. Since it was brand new when I went, I expected there to be a wait, and that may be the case for a while.

Kirsten Acuna/INSIDER, Disney

If you don't want to wait that long for food, you can definitely spend less time waiting somewhere else around Hollywood Studios.

Woody's Lunch Box could use more seating.

Kirsten Acuna/INSIDER

Once you're out of the queue, good luck finding a table to sit at.

Both times I ate at Woody's Lunch Box — around 1 p.m. on opening day and 8 p.m. the following Monday— I opted for a standing table since there weren't any unoccupied tables available.

But the more I looked aroundthe more I noticed space Disney easily could have freed up to add more tables for families. There are several large structures featuring the franchise's green army men inside the eating space and right outside. Some of them are atop a large structure while others are near giant dominoes. While they add to the grand illusion that you're in Toy Story Land, the area probably could have done without them in order to add more seating.

I don't mind standing while alone in a park, but families with strollers and multiple children who are paying hundreds of dollars to get into Disney World (a one-day regular ticket to Hollywood Studios is $114.) are probably going to want an area to sit down at in the Florida humidity.

Something else that may be unattractive to families is that the entire eating space is outside. The Lunch Box area and all of Toy Story Land has a lot of umbrellas set up to keep cool under, but I was a bit surprised there wasn't more of a covering to protect from the weather. Disney's Magic Kingdom has an outdoor space called Tomorrowland Terrace. The main difference is that it's much larger with a roof covering and when you enter inside you're instantly cooler.

One positive is that the tables and chairs at Woody's Lunch Box are fun fixtures inside the park. While the majority of them have green cloth umbrellas, some are built out of giant K'nex toys and are meant to look like taped together Babybel wrappers and crossword puzzles. Several of the chairs inside the area are meant to look like the round little cheeses. You can't help but smile at the clever design.

Should I eat here?

Disney Parks

Woody's Lunchbox isn't a place I'd go out of my way to eat at again. The lines were generally long and the food is pricey. (It's $9 for a grilled cheese and over $3 for three Babybel cheeses!)Most of the dishes aren't anything too special. I can get a turkey sandwich anywhere — and not for $10. And when it comes down to it, the tart pastries are really just fancy Pop-Tarts.

Unfortunately, if you're in Toy Story Land, you're kind of bound to that area. The next closest place to chow down isthe ABC Commissary. That's a little bit of a walk outside of the themed area on Commissary Lane, but it does serve a larger variety of food, including burgers, ribs, and chicken.

Disney Parks

If that doesn't do it for you, you can wait to visit Toy Story Land until next year when Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens up footsteps away in 2019.
